Beloved, we are God’s children now; what we will be has not yet been revealed. What we do know is this: when he is revealed, we will be like him, for we will see him as he is. And all who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.

From 1 John 2:29-3:6, NRSV

In describing the followers of Christ as God’s children, John expresses the fullness of God’s love. We are shown a God whose love is so deep and personal that those who believe are part of the family. Being a child of God brings great privilege. Not only can God’s children depend on unconditional love and care but they can look towards a time when they will see and be with God just as Christ is. As with any family, it is also expected that love and care be extended to fellow “siblings” and that the children show some likeness to God.

    • Who was John referring to as God’s children?
    • Who are God’s children today?

Pray for all members of God’s family – and perhaps especially for those on the “edges” who do not experience the love that God wants for them.
