30 May 2021 The Most Holy Trinity

Has any people ever heard the voice of a god speaking out of a fire, as you have heard, and lived? Or has any god ever attempted to go and take a nation for himself from the midst of another nation, by trials, by signs and wonders, by war, by a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, and by terrifying displays of power, as the Lord your God did for you in Egypt before your very eyes? So acknowledge today and take to heart that the Lord is God in heaven above and on the earth beneath; there is no other.

Deuteronomy 4:32-34,39-40, NRSV

On this Solemnity of the Holy Trinity, our first reading speaks of the unfailing love of God for his people. Despite the repeated failures of the Chosen People to abide by their covenant with God, they were never abandoned or forgotten. Time after time, they were forgiven and saved by God’s actions. In so far as we can understand the mystery of the Holy Trinity, we are to understand that at its heart is a relationship with this God of love. God seeks to be in relationship with each of us and invites us to respond by showing love in our turn.

    • Why do you think Moses reminded the people of the many times and ways in which God intervened to save them?
    • Can you identify times in your own life when you have felt close to God?

Reflect on the opportunities you have to deepen your relationship with God.
