For we do not proclaim ourselves; we proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord and ourselves as your slaves for Jesus’ sake. For it is the God who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness’, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

2 Corinthians 3:15 – 4:1,3-6, NRSV

In his preaching and writing, Paul’s focus was clearly on Jesus and not on himself. He was certain that he had been entrusted as a servant with spreading the Good News of the glory of Christ. He was so certain of this ministry that he was steadfast in the face of great difficulty and danger. Paul uses the glory of God to light shining in darkness. Paul sees that the Lord who created physical light can fill the hearts of believers with spiritual light through the Holy Spirit. This spiritual light is not given to be kept or held on to, but to shine out through believers so that others too can know the glory of God.

    • What do you think enabled Paul to be so steadfast in his apostolate?
    • How can we share the light of God’s glory with others?

Allow the light of God’s glory to shine in you today.
