Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. But if Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies also through his Spirit that dwells in you.

From Romans 8:1-11 , NRSV

Having previously outlined to the Roman Christians how their salvation was gained through the obedience of Christ in his suffering and death and through their own baptism into the life of the Risen Christ, Paul now explains the action of the Spirit in their lives. He asserts that the Spirit of the Risen Christ is already in those who believe and transforming their lives. This is a Spirit that gives life and strength to do God’s work and that will ultimately bring them to experience the glory of eternal life with God.

    • What do you think it means to “have the Spirit of Christ”?
    • What is your experience of feeling the help and action of the Spirit of Christ in your own life?

Reflect on the ways in which the Spirit of Christ enriches your life.
