When the goodness and loving-kindness of God our Saviour appeared, he saved us, not because of any works of righteousness that we had done, but according to his mercy, through the water of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit. This Spirit he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Saviour, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
From Titus 3: 1-7, NRSV

Our faith should show itself by our way of life and the good things we do and say in response to what we have received – the grace of new life through Jesus. That is an important point – that we have received freely from God – not because we had done anything to earn it at that point but simply through the graciousness of God. }
Once we recognise the abundant generosity of God, we find ourselves increasingly able to be generous in our turn. And, like God, we worry less about whether someone deserves it or not – just aware that they need it and God wants to give it – through us.

    • When have you sensed God’s generosity in your life?
    • How hard – or easy – do you find it to be generous to others whether or not they deserve it?

Pray today for the grace to be aware of how much you have received – and the grace to share that with others who need to experience God’s love through you.
