To fix one’s thought on Wisdom is perfect understanding,
and one who is vigilant on her account will soon be free from care,
because she goes about seeking those worthy of her,
and she graciously appears to them in their paths,
and meets them in every thought..
.
From Wisdom 6: 12-16, NRSV

Wisdom is an attribute of God and the Book of Wisdom describes how she was there at the very beginning of Creation, delighting in it and, especially, in the creation of human beings. This delight and concern did not end there but has been present at every second of every minute of every hour of the years since humanity first learned to look for God. Our Reading tells us that it is not a passive concern, waiting for us to look for her. Rather, she comes among us and those who are alert and vigilant will find her in those moments of wisdom and understanding that assure us that God is present and intimately concerned with us – always.

    • Why is wisdom so important?
    • When have you encountered Wisdom – a flash of insight or understanding that has made sense of something?

Pray today for vigilance so that you find Wisdom when she graciously appears on your path.
