27 December 2022 Saint John, Apostle, Evangelist

We declare to you what was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the word of life— this life was revealed, and we have seen it and testify to it, and declare to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us— we declare to you what we have seen and heard so that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. We are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.

From 1 John 1:1-4 ,NRSV

In today’s reading we hear John speaking about the humanity of Christ. He speaks of a person whom he had heard, seen and touched and who communicated God’s love to all through his physical presence. Through Christ’s presence in the world, God became audible, visible and tangible and therefore accessible to people. John wanted others to know the same joy he had gained through his relationship with the person of Jesus Christ.

    • Why do you think God chose to become “incarnate”?
    • What can you do to develop your relationship with Christ?

Look for opportunities today to make God’s love known to others through your words, actions and touch.
