3 April 2024 Easter Wednesday

But Peter said, ‘I have no silver or gold, but what I have I give you; in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, stand up and walk.’ And he took him by the right hand and raised him up; and immediately his feet and ankles were made strong. Jumping up, he stood and began to walk, and he entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God.

From Acts 3:1-10, NRSV

Peter was speaking to a man who was sitting near the entrance to the Temple. This man had been lame since his birth. We are told that he was carried here daily on his stretcher to beg from those entering the Temple for prayer. When he turned expectantly to Peter and John, he received something far more valuable than money. Peter commanded him in the name of Jesus Christ to walk. Peter then helped the man up, and not only was he able to walk, but also to jump about and give praise to God. It is easy to imagine the astonishment and incredulity of the people who for years had walked past this man. They were unable to explain what had happened but Peter made it clear that this healing took place in the name of Jesus and through the power of the Spirit.

    • What impact do you think this event may have had on those who witnessed it?
    • Who can give healing in the name of Jesus Christ?

Reflect on the many forms of healing needed by those around you and how you might be an instrument of healing through your words or actions.
