Through him, then, let us continually offer a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that confess his name. Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.
From Hebrews 13: 15-17,20-21, NRSV

Today we reach the final reading from the letter to the Hebrews. Throughout the letter, the author has spoken at length about the superiority of Christ’s sacrifice compared to the sacrifices and rituals practised under the Old Law. Here he tells them of the sacrifices they can make which will be pleasing to God. Their sacrifice should be one of praise, not of animals or things. There is nothing that they – or we – can add to what Christ has already gained for us. Instead, any sacrifice we make should come from our sense of gratitude. Our gratitude is not only to be expressed in words but also through doing good works, sharing with others and co-operating with our leaders.

    • Why are deeds as well as words an important aspect of Christian sacrifice?
    • Where do you see acts of sacrifice that please God happening today?

Is there a practical expression of gratitude to God that you can offer today?
