Wisdom is radiant and unfading,
and she is easily discerned by those who love her,
and is found by those who seek her.
She hastens to make herself known to those who desire her.
One who rises early to seek her will have no difficulty,
for she will be found sitting at the gate.

From Wisdom 6:12-16 NRSV

In today’s first reading, we hear a description of wisdom which differs from the secular view as something to be obtained through study, gaining lots of knowledge, experience and maturity. In the Book of Wisdom, it is described as that by which God created and guides the world. We are encouraged to seek out this wisdom which can only be given by God who wishes to share it with those who truly desire it.

    • Which words from this description particularly strike you?
    • What do you suppose it is like to share in God’s wisdom?

You may find it helpful to read the whole of this reading and reflect on its meaning for you.
