So let no one boast about human leaders. For all things are yours, whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future—all belong to you, and you belong to Christ, and Christ belongs to God.
From 1 Corinthians 3: 18-23 (NRSV)

Paul has had to face the unenviable task of challenging the community in Corinth for the ways in which they have split into different groups following the various Christian leaders who had taught them. Some proclaimed themselves as followers of Paul himself whilst others followed Cephas (Peter) or Apollos. Paul tells them unequivocally that there is nothing to boast about in following human leaders and that human wisdom is far from the wisdom of God. He wants them to remember that they they all belong to Christ and not to human leaders..

    • Why do you think the people of Corinth were so strongly influenced by their human leaders?
    • How do we know if our human leaders in faith are leading us to Christ rather than to themselves ?

Pray for all leaders in faith that they will draw others to Christ.
